Reclaiming Genius

A programme for leaders at the edge of what’s possible

Reclaiming

Genius

Most leaders operate at a fraction of their actual cognitive capacity. Not because they lack intelligence — but because decades of performance pressure have buried the deeper intelligence they were born with. Reclaiming Genius is the work of getting it back.

You were born a genius.
The system trained it out of you.

You were born a genius.

The system trained it out of you. Many of the best thinkers, from Abraham Maslow to Ken Robinson and Ellen Langer, have shown how childhood intelligence has peak moments of unity, wholeness and timelessness, a self before fragmentation. They showed that adults can regain flexibility, openness, and creativity.

We can restore cognitive cohesion and flow. What happened in between was not a loss of intelligence. It was the systematic suppression of a deeper, more essential way of thinking — replaced by the performance of competence, the management of perception, and the avoidance of risk.

That suppression can be reversed.

The intelligence you were born with is still there.
When you see what lies beneath, the way ahead becomes clearer.
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up.” – Pablo Picasso

Reclaiming Genius begins with that question.

A structured path back to

essential intelligence.

Reclaiming Genius is built on a framework developed by neuroscientist Dr. Leonard Khirug and executive coach Dain Dunston. It works across two interconnected dimensions — each addressing a different layer of how intelligence gets suppressed and how it gets restored.

01

Rebuild Contact
With What's Real

Most leaders have learned to operate from urgency — reacting to what is loud rather than responding to what is true. This dimension of the work rebuilds the capacity to access what is actually real beneath the noise of performance pressure.

  • Essential Intelligence — cuts through urgency to what is true.
  • Somatic Intelligence — reads how truth shows up in the body.

02

See and Reorganise
The Patterns

The patterns that override essential intelligence are not random. They are learned, specific, and observable. This dimension of the work builds the capacity to see those patterns in real time — and to reorganise them before they run the room.

  • Reflectional Intelligence — observes reactions without collapsing into them.
  • Relational Intelligence — keeps you connected under pressure.

What changes

when genius is reclaimed.

Before

You notice the override state after the meeting ends.

Recovery from a reactive episode takes 8–10 minutes or longer.

Yesterday's urgency writes today's first email.

Weeks of deliberation produce the same circular thinking.

Hours lost to decisions that could have been made in minutes.

After

→ You catch it mid-sentence — and redirect in real time.

→ Recovery drops to under 90 seconds. Then less.

→ You see the pattern. Then you stop it.

→ The same quality of thinking. Minutes, not weeks.

→ Hours reclaimed through clearer decisions made upfront.

The Cognitive Signature Assessment

Every engagement begins here. A focused 60-minute session that maps your specific override patterns and identifies the primary bottleneck in your current operating system.

→ Hours reclaimed through clearer decisions made upfront.

The Reclaiming Genius Protocol

A personalised sequence of practices — drawn from neuroscience, somatic work, and decades of executive coaching — designed specifically around your cognitive signature.

→ Not a generic programme. Built for how you specifically operate.

Ongoing Coaching Sessions

Regular one-on-one sessions with Dain Dunston, applying the framework to the real situations you are navigating — decisions, relationships, transitions, and the moments when override is most likely to run you.

The Reservoir Framework

Access to the full body of work developed by Dain Dunston and Dr. Leonard Khirug — including the Synthetic Self / Essential Self framework, the Art of Thinking methodology, and the NeuroPsyPhy model.

→The intellectual architecture behind the practice.

The minds behind the work.

Dain Dunston

Executive Coach · Author · Co-Creator of Reclaiming Genius

Dain Dunston is an executive coach and author with thirty years of experience working with leaders at the edge of what leadership can become. He is the author of Being Essential: Seven Questions for Living and Leading with Radical Self-Awareness.

His work is grounded in a single conviction: that most leaders are operating from a constructed identity — the Synthetic Self — that was built for survival, not for genius. The work of Reclaiming Genius is the work of returning to the Essential Self beneath it.

Dr. Leonard Khirug

Neuroscientist · Leadership Advisor · Co-Creator of Reclaiming Genius

Dr. Leonard Khirug is a neuroscientist and performance coach whose work sits at the intersection of cutting-edge brain science and real-world leadership application. He is the creator of the NeuroPsyPhy framework — an integrated model of how the brain, psychology, and physiology interact to shape human performance.

His contribution to Reclaiming Genius is the scientific architecture that makes the work measurable, repeatable, and grounded in how the brain actually changes. The Art of Thinking methodology, developed with Dain Dunston, is the practical expression of that science.

Reclaiming Genius begins with the Assessment.

Reclaiming Genius is available by invitation to leaders who have completed the Cognitive Signature Assessment. The Assessment is where we establish whether the work is the right fit — and where the work, in fact, begins.

What lies beneath is what lies ahead.
